Aliya Resort & Spa, Sigiriya is a new addition to the list of hotels available at Sigiriya area. With the high demand for the hotels in Dambulla, Sigiriya and Habarana areas, the Aliya Resort & Spa gives adds competition to the present hotels as well.
My colleagues and I took part in a Familiarization tour to the Aliya Resort & Spa, Sigiriya which was organized by the sales team. We reported to The Kingsbury, Colombo early morning at around 06.00 a.m. and hopped on to the coach. We were given with Theme Resorts branded t-shirts as the welcome gift and started our journey towards Dambulla at around 07.00 a.m.
Well of course you might wonder why I said Dambulla. That’s because one of the highlights of this visit was to see the Sri Lanka vs. Pakistan Cricket Match which was held at the Rangiri-Dambulla cricket grounds which was on 11th July 2015.
It took us around 2 hours to reach Kurunagala and to stop for breakfast at Kandyan Reach. It was a pleasant hotel which we had breakfast and it was a good start. Because we had the support from the local police officers who were riding bikes ahead of our coach, we had minimum impact from the road constructions we passed from the Kurunagala to Dambulla route.
We arrived at the Rangiri-Dambulla Cricket grounds at around 11.00a.m. and went straight to the pavilion area to see the match. Well, to be honest, not a big fan of watching cricket rather than playing it. So, myself and the guys were roaming around, having lunch and walking here and there until about 05.00 p.m. when the hotel representation mentioned that we are gonna head to the hotel.
Finally!! Something that all agreed on with one ambition! We were on the road for no more than 30 minutes and we arrived at the mighty Aliya Resort & Spa, Sigiriya.
The 4* classified hotel has 96 rooms in various categories and has the rooms in blocks and also the Tents style. The most pleasing style of the hotel is the magnificent view from the Reception area, the swimming pool overlooking the Sigiriya Rock Fortress – an UNESCO World Heritage site.
We had a lovely swim in the swimming pool of course but one thing I found was that, though the design and beauty of the pool was amazing, the layout was not that user friendly. It had the layout in layers and I found myself tripping over the layers within the swimming pool which was a bit risky of course.
The evening was admired with a cocktail at the disco room within the hotel premises and the dinner was served at the main restaurant. Well of course you can expect a full buffet from a 4* resort like this and the meals were delicious. I met with the owner of this awesome resort, Mr. Chandra who was very polite and kind enough to discuss over the upcoming project of the Maalu Maalu Resort in Kalpitiya, Sri Lanka.
The evening was full of dances and entertainment and we were doing pretty well over at Aliya Resort & Spa. We left the hotel at about midnight and arrived to Colombo when the light hit the city.
