Antique styled hotels of Sri Lanka
With over a recorded history for more than 2000 years, Sri Lanka is home for a container full of ancient stories, tales, beliefs and legends. Yeah, it might sound a little boasting but for more than 2000 years, Sri Lanka has been developing from stage to stage and now becoming a Must-Visit destination in most of the Bucket-lists!
Sri Lanka is a little different when it comes to its architectural designs. Sorry, not an architect and I don't know the exact terms. But, if you see with other properties from ancient times, the Palaces, Houses, Manor Houses are very uniquely designed and well, uniquely designed.
I visited some of the hotels that are available to the public that resemble ancient architectural designs of Sri Lanka.
#1 Forest rock garden resort, anuradhapura
Trust me, out of all of the ancient styled hotels/resorts, Forest Rock Garden resort is still my favourite.
Imagine you walk into ancient times where the constructions are from granite, worn-out bricks, stairs made with designs and music from chanting is rhyming in your ears!
This is a newly built resort, a little away from the town of Anuradhapura but the design is totally ancient Ceylon. This resort is winning awards for the conceptual design and high standards it maintains over the years.
#2 Ulagalla resort, anuradhapura
A part of the luxury boutique hotel chain, UGA Escapes, the Ulagalla resort is a converted ancient Walawwa (Manor House) owned by the Nikaweva family.
The chalets are separately built and the main building is now converted into the Reception area, restaurant on top and lounge. With the acres of land for this property, a stay at the Ulagalla Resort definitely brings up the Royalty in you.
#3 landesi by jetwing, galle
This ancient styled Mansion is within the Galle Fort, the famous UNESCO World heritage site of Sri Lanka. With the outside structure covered in wood panels, the inside is luxurious enough to host its own garden and upstairs which has a mini-library and comfortable rooms. Built in the Dutch era, the hotel is a fine specimen of Antique styled hotel in Sri Lanka.
#4 UGA residence, colombo
Nestled in one of the busiest areas of Colombo, I visited one of the most admired houses since previous centuries. Built in the 19th century, this property was under the Barrister Moosajee and resembles a typical Manor House in the heart of Colombo. With the spacious rooms and private garden areas for them, a swimming pool in the middle and a wealth of antique features, UGA Residence is one of my favourites.
